Biomaster aids Paralympic performance

POWERbreathe is a hand-held electronic respiratory muscle trainer developed to assist in breathing training that can be applied to help reduce breathlessness, improve fitness and maximise sports performance.

It is the result of nearly a decade of research and features a Biomaster antibacterial mouthpiece to protect against bugs such as E.coli and MRSA.

The device can be hugely informative when training the breathing muscles as it allows for instant feedback and later analysis, which can then be used to tailor training guidelines.

In June the POWERbreathe team met up with GB’s Olympic and Paralympic ‎Archery teams at Lilleshall National Sport Centre for tests. After four weeks training all POWERbreathe users showed excellent improvements across all breathing parameters.

Performance benefits for archery team members include a reduction in upper respiratory muscle dominance and over recruitment of musculature around the neck which can be over used for stability and breathing, increased trunk stability and improved shoulder function and general health improvement, due to optimised breathing which has been shown to improve efficiency of breathing, build stamina and help reduce fatigue.

The next test for the GB team is the World Archery Para Championships and Olympic qualifier which take place in Copenhagen from 23 to 30 August.
